Knight Hawks

Knight Hawks was a starship combat supplement to the Star Frontiers RPG from TSR relased back in 1983 plus it was playable as a stand alone game. Several modules were released for Star Frontiers that featured the Knight Hawks rules integrated with the RPG.

A line of miniatures were produced for the UPF and Sather fleets and some Pirate and Privateer ships.  They were available in a few boxed sets plus some blisters of specific ships with the large ships being pretty big and really heavy.

Today you can still find some of these miniatures but they often suffer from 'lead rot' and require extra work to make presentable.  As an alternative, there are a couple different sets of 3D stl files available that you can download and then print your own minis and as many as you need to fill your fleet.  As a bonus, those stl files include some of the ship classes that were mentioned in the rules but never got an official miniature.

Pirates, Privateers & Yachts
Not all the ships in Knight Hawks were part of the UPF or the Sather military fleets.  The Frontier was a wild place full of Pirates raiding ships and colonies so Privateers developed that could protect the commercial fleets and armed Yachts used by corporations and wealthy citizens.

Pirates
Pirates represent a major threat to the trade routes connecting the planets of the Frontier.  The standard pirate tactic is a fast assault on a lone ship, usually a freighter or spaceliner. The pirates try to disable the victim's drives and maneuver jets and then board her.

Pirate ships usually are small and fast. Assault Scouts and Frigates are the preferred pirate vessels although they often seem to prefer the Corvette. Whatever type of ship is used, it will be heavily armed. Asteroids, uninhabited planets, unknown regions of outpost worlds and moons all might serve as pirate bases.

Privateers
Privateers are privately owned or corporate vessels especially outfitted for one job - fighting! Privateers are usually yachts, freighters or obsolete military vessels which have been re-armed and upgraded. They vary in size from that of an assault scout to ships almost as large as a cruiser. Privateers hunt down pirates, protect corporation vessels from Sathar and other enemy ships, and sometimes act as pirate ships themselves. They can be armed in many different ways, but are generally not as wall armed as military vessels. Despite their relatively high cost, the versatility and high performance aspects of privateers are causing them to appear more and more frequently throughout the frontier.

Yachts
Interstellar Yachts include commercial vessels as large as spaceliners, as well as smaller, privately owned craft that corporations and wealthy citizens might use. Early models of yachts started off as retrofitted security vessels, but with the popularity of recreational vessels, later models have been streamlined considerably for more luxury roles.

No miniatures were produced for the yachts but they are include here with substitute silhouettes as the stats for the ships were part of the game.
