European
Federation (EuroFed) Fleet
Miniatures from Brigade
Models
Finally getting around to re-posting this from the long-gone
Battle Works site, along with a new crop of photos, more fluff, and a
few new ship classes as well. The minis are from Brigade Models'
EuroFed range. I've used them either as an FSE subformation or as
the Nuovo Paradiso Seperatist Movement fleet, a Italian-Nationalist
breakaway faction that arose on the colony world of New Paradise during the
First Xeno War. They play a lot like standard fleet book FSE, with an
emphasis on high thrust ratings and missiles. Unlike FSE, they rely on
massed rack launchers rather than magazine-fed systems, but carry heavier
secondary beam armaments than the FSE fleet generally does. If their big
strike fails to do enough damage to allow their beams to win the day, they
will often use their powerful engines to withdraw rather than fight an
uphill battle.

Surveillante Sensor Picket
TMF 14
NPV 71 / CPV 59
Hull 4 (1/1/1/1) - 1 crew unit in last box
Thrust 6
FTL
Superior Sensors
3 PDS
|
A small ship with a very large sensor array, the
Surveillante-class sensor picket serves as the eyes of the fleet but lacks
offensive weaponry. They are sometimes deployed with groups of fast
strikeboats, where they can use their sophisticated electronics to track and
identify key targets while remaining well beyond weapons range.

Le Malin Frigate
TMF 21
NPV 71 / CPV 54
Hull 6 (2/2/1/1) - 2 crew units, one every 3rd box
Thrust 6
FTL
1 Fire Control
1 PDS
3 Class 1 Beam Batteries (All Arcs)
2 Submunition Packs (F)
|
Like many older design EuroFed/NPSM designs, the
Le Malin frigate is armed with short-ranged "Shark
Hunter" cluster missile packs for her
primary offensive punch. The short range of these outdated
weapons force the vessel into closing with the enemy, a risky
proposition given her fragile hull and lack of defensive systems. |
|
Surcouf Destroyer
TMF 28
NPV 93 / CPV 73
Hull 9 (3/2/2/2) - 2 crew, one every 5th box
Thrust 6
FTL
1 Fire Control
1 PDS
2 Class 2 Beam Batteries (F/FP/AP, F/FS/AS)
2 Submunition Packs (F)
|
Another older design, the Surcouf class destroyers are
widely regarded as something of a failure. While reasonably fast,
their light defenses and modest weapons fit limit both survivability and
offensive punch. They are, however, quickly and easyily built
and inexpensive to operate, which has ensured a lengthy service life despite
their perceived flaws.

|
Insidioso Destroyer
TMF 34
NPV 114 / CPV 92
Hull 10 (3/3/2/2) - 2 crew units, one every 5th box
Thrust 6
FTL
1 Fire Control
1 PDS
1 Salvo Missile Rack (F/FS/FP)
2 Class 2 Beam Batteries (F/FP/AP, F/FS/AS)
1 Class 1 Beam Battery (All Arcs)
|
A larger modern destroyer design that was first built during
the Xeno War, the Insidioso class carries a full rack of heavy
"Assassino" shipkiller missiles in addition to a strong
medium-range beam array. The range and hitting power of
these weapons are a tremendous improvement over the earlier
cluster missiles, although their greater sensor signature and slower
flight speed does render them vulnerable to interception by point
defense systems.

Valmy Escort Cruiser
TMF 78
NPV 262 / CPV 245
Hull 23 (6/6/6/5) - 4 crew units, one every 6th box
Thrust 6
FTL
2 Fire Controls
ADFC
4 PDS
5 Class 2 Beam Batteries (F/FP/FS, 2 x F/FP/AP, 2 x F/FS/AS)
2 Class 1 Beam Batteries (All Arcs)
4 Submunition Packs (F)
|
Originally built in the same era as the
similarly-armed Surcouf destroyers, the Valmy sports a expensive area
defense array that was intended to protect her lighter squadronmates from
missile and fighter attacks. Her relatively short ranged weaponry has
relegated the class to a primarily defensive role during the Xeno War,
although her submunition packs have proven useful in
discouraging point-blank Kra'Vak assaults.

|
Abruzzi Heavy Cruiser
TMF 88
NPV 296 / CPV 285
Hull 26 (7/7/6/6) - 5 crew units, one every 6th box
Thrust 6
FTL
2 Fire Controls
3 PDS
2 Salvo Missile Racks (F/FS/FP)
6 Class 2 Beam Batteries (3x F/FP/AP, 3x F/FS/AS)
2 Class 1 Beam Batteries (All Arcs)
|
Another Xeno War-era design, the Abruzzi is a powerful
ship optimized for the hit-and-run tactics favored by EuroFed missile
fleets. Her defenses are unexceptional but she packs a hefty
offensive wallop and her excellent thrust rating allows her to pick her
fights against most enemies.

Milano Dreadnought
TMF 158
NPV 526 / CPV 618
Hull 46 (12/12/11/11) - 8 crew units, one every 6th box
Thrust 6
FTL
3 Fire Controls
4 PDS
4 Salvo Missile Racks (F/FS/FP)
2 Class 3 Beam Batteries (F/FS/FP)
6 Class 2 Beam Batteries (3x F/FP/AP, 3x F/FS/AS)
2 Class 1 Beam Batteries (All Arcs)
|
Largest of the Italian subfleet's battline ships, the Milano-class
dreadnought is a deadly opponent with phenomenal engine performance, well
able to outrun anything she can't outfight. While she lacks the large
magazines of the French capital ships, her single-salvo missile output is
unmatched in the EuroFed/FSE fleet.

Umberto Battlecarrier
TMF 168
NPV 565 + fighters / CPV 542 + fighters
Hull 42 (11/11/10/10) - 9 crew, one every 5th box
Thrust 6
FTL
2 Fire Controls
4 PDS
3 Hanger Bays
3 Salvo Missile Racks (F/FS/FP)
6 Class 2 Beam Batteries (3x F/FP/AP, 3x F/FS/AS)
2 Class 1 Beam Batteries (All Arcs)
|
Built as a multirole combat ship, the
massive Umberto battle carrier combines significant beam and missile
weaponry with sufficient hanger capacity to provide fighter cover for a
small fleet. While expensive, their ability to overload all but the
heaviest point defenses with combined fighter and missile strikes has made
them a remarkably successful class to date.

Revanche Strikeboat Carrier -
FTL Tug Refit
TMF 84
NPV 209 / CPV 262
Hull 14 (4/4/3/3) - 5 crew units, one every 3rd box
Thrust 6
FTL
1 Fire Control
4 PDS
4 Class 1 Beam Batteries (All Arcs)
Enhanced FTL "Tug" drives (140 Mass transport payload - enough for
4 Montcalm monitors)
Pre-refit had lower transport capability (enough for
110 Mass, approximately 6 strikeboats or corvettes) but devoted 6 Mass
to support and resupply facilities for their brood.
|
Originally built as a tender and ferry for six-ship
strikeboat squadrons, most Revanche-class hulls have been refitted into
FTL transport tugs designed to allow rapid redeployment of system
defense craft. Fragile and poorly armed, these ships are valuable
strategic assets that should be kept out of direct combat whenever
possible. Unfortunately, they often find themselves called on to
risk themselves in recovery operations (a Revanche can haul a disabled
battleship into FTL if need be) or in dropping their armed passenger ships
into active battlezones. |
|
Montcalm System Patrol Monitor
TMF 34
NPV 116 / CPV 94
Hull 13 (4/3/3/3) - 2 crew units, one every 7th box
Armor 1
Thrust 2
1 Fire Control
ADFC
4 PDS
2 Salvo Missile Racks (F/FS/FP) or 1 Beam-3 (F/FP/AP/FS/AS)
2 Class 1 Beam Batteries (All Arcs)
|
Commonly found in system defense forces
throughout EuroFed/FSE space, the Montcalm-class monitor is a
destroyer-sized combat ship that sacrifices thrust and FTL capability for
improved weaponry and durability. They carry a variety of weapon
loadouts from missile racks to capital-grade beam turrets. They also
mount an extensive PDS array tied to advanced fire controls, which
make them popular convoy escorts, a role where their low thrust is at
worst a minor drawback. |
