American Republic
(AmRep) Fleet

Miniatures from Brigade
Models
Continuing my efforts to stat up new ships for
Full Thrust, today I've got some of the American Republic ships from Brigade
Models. I like to use them in the Tuffleyverse as a deep-frontier
"pocket empire" established by descendents of US citizens who fled
the "British reconquest" of North America that eventually formed
the NAC. Depending on your point of view, they can be either the
last true US patriots looking for a rematch after their loss in the 2nd
Civil War, or embittered cranks trying to turn the clock back to a
time before the Great Reunification of the
Commonwealth. They also work nicely as NAC fleet variants
(perhaps the product of a colonial shipyard) or something more
generic.
No matter what you use them as, they've built quite a fleet, some of
which are statted out below. I've fitted them out with most
ships carrying pulse torpedoes as primary weapons, with secondary
beam mounts and some ER missile racks on specialist designs. Thrust
ratings are on the high end of average overall, and defenses are fairly
middle-of-the-road. The long potential range of pulse torps lets
them play a bit of a sniping game even with their smaller ships, and most
battles will open with several volleys of torps at key targets from standoff
ranges, backed up by long range beam sniping and
missile salvos.

Destroyers form
the backbone of most AmRep escort and
strike groups, where their powerful drive systems and versatile
weapon suites let them handle a wide variety of combat missions. Like
most Republic warships, they have very limited non-combat functions,
with short logistical "legs" and rather cramped and
uncomfortable crew accommodations despite having a minimalist personnel
compliment. The Oldendorf variant carries a powerful pulse
torpedo launcher as its primary weapon, backed up by a light beam emitter
fit.

Harris-class Missile Destroyer
TMF 34
NPV 114 / CPV 92
Armor 1
Hull 9 (3/2/2/2) - 2 crew units, one every 5th box
Thrust 6
FTL
1 Fire Control
2 PDS
1 Extended Range Salvo Missile Rack (F/FS/AS)
1 Class 2 Beam Battery (F/FP/FS)
1 Class 1 Beam Battery (All Arcs)
|
A variant of the very similar
Oldendorf design, the Harris trades its heavy pulse torpedo for a massive
rack of long-range "Patriot" salvo missiles.
While strictly a one-shot wonder due to the bulk of the
ammunition, a successful strike with a full spread of these shipkillers
can easily destroy any other escort, or inflict crippling damage even
on much larger cruisers or capital ships. |

Proudlock-class Light
Cruiser
TMF 44
NPV 149 / CPV 124
Armor 1
Hull 11 (3/3/3/2) - 3 crew units, one every 4th box
Thrust 6
FTL
2 Fire Controls
2 PDS
2 Pulse Torpedoes (F/FS, F/FP)
1 Class 1 Beam Battery (All Arcs)
|
Smallest of the AmRep cruiser classes, the Proudlock is
built around its twin pulse torpedo launchers. These do give it great
potential firepower, but their bulk and energy consumption also limit
its ability to carry a solid secondary weapons fit. The class is most
often found leading squadrons of destroyers and corvettes, acting
as the glorified heavy destroyer it most closely resembles.

Baltimore-class Light Cruiser
TMF 54
NPV 178 / CPV 153
Armor 1
Hull 15 (4/4/4/3) - 3 crew units, one every 5th box
Thrust 6
FTL
1 Screen Generator
2 Fire Controls
3 PDS
4 Class 2 Beam Batteries (2 x F/FS/AS, 2 x F/FP/AP)
1 Class 1 Beam Battery (All Arcs)
|
One of the few cruiser hulls in the AmRep fleet that doesn't
use pulse torpedoes as primary weapons, the Baltimore is something of an
anomaly. This is due to her screen generator, which is of an unusual
new design that unfortunately projects interference on a part of the
spectrum that prevents the proper formation of the energy packets that
make up a pulse torpedo. It was initially hoped that the new screen
would provide a defensive benefit against incoming torpedoes, but extensive
field testing has failed to show this to be the case, leaving the class with
an oddball weapons fit that many AmRep commanders struggle to employ well.

Oriskany-class Attack Carrier
TMF 197

Hull 50 (13/13/12/12) - 10 crew units, one every 5th box
Thrust 4
FTL
1 Screen Generator
6 Hanger Bays
2 Fire Controls
1 ADFC
6 PDS
2 Pulse Torpedoes (F/FS, F/FP)
1 Class 2 Beam Battery (F/FS/FP)
1 Class 1 Beam Battery (All Arcs)

Largest of the AmRep carrier hulls, the huge Oriskany class
is generally found as either the core of a strike battlegroup or
operating in support of other "supercapital" designs.
Although primarily a fighter platform, the Oriskany does mount a pair of
pulse torpedo launchers that allow her to add some weight to the fleet's
overall volley strength. She also carries an extensive area defense
array capable of shredding incoming fighters and missile strikes, backed up
with screen generators and a sturdy hull that let her continue fighter
operations even while under fire.

The huge Newman-class dreadnoughts are the largest ships
produced by the AmRep shipyards, and represent a major naval asset.
They are invariably found with multiple escort ships, often in the company
of other capital or supercapital hulls, especially carriers.
A Newman's offensive capability is potent, revolving around
long-ranged beam and torpedo weaponry covering her prow in a lethal web of
fire. Her flanks and rear are much less well-armed though,
leading her to try to keep enemies at a distance to avoid being
outflanked. Defensively, she sports screens,
a powerful area defense array, and a heavily
compartmentalized and reinforced hull, making her easily the toughest class
in the fleet.
