KV - Kra'Vak
Kra'Vak
Dominion Star Forces
Kra'Vaka'Kia'Kon (Spear of War Host of
the People of the Sorrow Killer)
As the Xeno War
progressed, additional types of Kra'Vak ship started appearing in their
fleets. These new classes of ships seemed to show different design
elements not found in the first wave such as an emphasis on MKP usage and
K-guns with wider arcs. UNDIA military analysts theorized that
additional Kra'Vak clans were mobilizing for the war.
Additional Kra'Vak clans that may become involved in the
war are the Altaran
and the P'sha.

Briefing Report 230918.25
Update on newly-observed Kra’Vak
Warship types
(From the GZG 2004 paper catalog)
The Kra'Vak Dominion:
The Dominion of the Kra'Vak is composed ol a large number of Clans, each
Clan being divided into many separate War Families. A Clan is a
"nation" of Kra'Vak numbering from the hundreds of thousands to
many millions, while a War Family is an extended tribal bloodline group of
maybe several hundred members. The Kra'Vak homeworld is known as Kra'Vak
(Literal translation: “World of the Sorrow Killer"). The other
worlds of the Dominion include heavily settled colony worlds similar to
the human Inner Colonies, populated by multiple Clans, and many smaller
colonial outposts which are usually settled by members of single Clans.
The Star Force of the Dominion (the Kra'Vaka'Kia'Kon - literally, Spear of
War Host of the People of the Sorrow Killer), which comprises the space
naval assets of the Kra'vak armed forces, is theoretically a homogenous
single entity made up from the fleets of the various Clans under a unified
command structure. In practice, the individual fleets and units are still
primarily loyal to their own Clans and internal dissent (and even outright
combat) is not unknown; mixing units from different clans is generally a
had idea and is avoided wherever possible except in the largest
operations.
Kra'vak Warships:
The Kra'Vak are especially adept at gravitic manipulation technology,
having developed it to a much higher degree than Humanity has. All their
major weapon systems are grav-based, and rely heavily on kinetic
projectile weapons rather than energy or particle beam technologies. The
warships of the Kra'Vak Dominion are equipped with gravitic-accelerator
kinetic projectile guns, known as K-guns, tiring solid penetrators at
incredibly high velocities. These kinetic penetrators cause massive damage
when they impact their target; screens are of no use against them, and
even heavy armour little more so - while armour will stop the smallest K-
gun rounds from doing too much internal damage, the larger classes of
K-gun will simply slice through the armour and rip into the ship's
internals. Normal Kra'Vak design practice is to mount a small number of
the largest class of forward- mounted K-guns that the ship can carry,
backed up by a one or more turretted K-1 systems as secondary weapons.
This makes tactical maneuvering and ship facing of primary importance to
the Kra'Vak, and to this end all their ships are equipped with advanced
grav- drives that give them much greater maneuverability than Human ships
of the same basic thrust level. Kra'Vak warships do not carry energy
screens or large amounts of hull armour Instead, their ship hulls are
built with a much higher degree of internal structural integrity than most
Human designs, to withstand and absorb internal damage caused by
penetrating weapon hits (which has an additional bonus of being better
able to take the massive stresses imposed by the enhanced maneuvering
capabilities of their advanced grav drives).

Excerpt from UNDIA military report circulated to UNSC and
allied units, April 2189:
"... The Kedge class follows the standard pattern of
light Kra'Vak units: highly maneuverable and armed primarily with a
battery of short-ranged single-shot kinetic penetrators, but with a
relatively fragile hull and a weak self-defense armament. Like the smaller
Keg and Kin classes the Kedge class ships can be very dangerous to slower
human capital ships and freighters, but high-thrust human escort vessels
like UNSC Hunters or NAC Tacomas can usually defeat them by staying
outside the short and narrow MKP envelope."

Excerpt from UNDIA military report circulated to UNSC and
allied units, December 2190:
"... Unlike the Kra'Vak light classes encountered
earlier in the war, which are all strikeboats with limited self-defense
capabilities and therefore relatively easy prey for nimble human escorts
when caught on their own, the Kick class ships are well equipped to take
care both of themselves and of any human escorts they encounter.
While they were initially observed operating
independently or in small squadrons patrolling the Kra'Vak supply routes
into human space, they are now increasingly common both in probing raids
on human systems and in larger fleet actions.
The first human ship to report an encounter with
Kick-class vessels was the OUPS Blackwood, which narrowly escaped after
suffering damage which would have destroyed most human light cruisers. It
is believed that similar earlier encounters with patrolling Kicks explain
many of the human escorts that have disappeared without trace during
attempted raids on Kra'Vak supply lines in the months after the Kra'Vak
rebuff at Centauris, since the tactics that have made human escorts so
effective against the smaller Keg, Kedge and Kite strikeboat classes often
fail disastrously against Kick-class ships. "

Excerpt from UNDIA military report circulated to UNSC and
allied units, Mars 2189:
"... While the Kilroy class is the same size as the
previously encountered Kestrel-class light cruisers, it is tactically more
similar to much lighter strikeboats and will usually attempt to close the
range as quickly as possible in order to fire its single-shot kinetic
penetrators. This attack is extremely powerful and must be avoided at all
costs.
So far the Kilroys have mostly been encountered in
Kra'Vak raids against human orbital installations, most recently in the
attack on the NAC Starbase 22 where the few dazed survivors simply
reported 'Kilroy was here'."

Notes:
The Koorbash class caused much consternation among the
human military intelligence analysts, shown in the following excerpts:
Excerpt from UNDIA military report circulated to UNSC and
allied units, July 2189:
"...the Koorbash class appears to represent a
radically different Kra'Vak design concept. Believed to be an extensive
refit of Kilroy-class strike cruisers, the Koorbash has a considerably
weakened engine (indeed, it is no more maneuverable than most Kra'Vak
capital ships) and lacks the Kilroy's single-shot kinetic penetrator
battery, but instead it has a significantly stronger hull structure than
other Kra'Vak ships of similar size and also carries a pair of unusually
wide-arced medium K-guns capable of firing at targets perpendicular to the
ship's course. This makes it unusually difficult to avoid its heavier K-
gun arcs in spite of its relatively poor maneuverability, and the current
theory is that the Koorbash is a Kra'Vak attempt to counter the nimble
human escorts which have proved so successful against Kra'Vak strike craft
like the Kegs and Kedges."
Excerpt from UNDIA military report circulated to UNSC and
allied units, Mars 2190:
"...analysis of wreckage recovered after the recent
Kra'Vak defeat at Centauris conclusively shows that the Koorbash class is
the original design from which the Kilroy attack cruisers were created,
instead of the other way around as was previously believed.
This could mean that the Koorbash class was designed by
clans in the farther regions of the Dominion where the main threats come
from other Kra'Vak clans. If this is the case its wider-than-usual K-gun
fire arcs could be intended to bring heavier K-guns to bear on highly maneuverable
Kra'Vak ships, rather than being a response to maneuverable human escort
ships as was previously believed. It could also mean that we have so far
only faced a small fraction of the Dominion's forces, and that the Kra'Vak
will return in much greater strength than before as soon as the entire
Dominion has mobilized for war."

Excerpt from Universal News Network broadcast, August
2192:
"The existence of Kra'Vak heavy battleships with
wide-arc secondary kinetic gun batteries has been suspected since the
Karate class was reported a year ago, but no such ship had been identified
until the raid against Mars last month. [...]
As the battleship was about to open fire on the Delafield
orbital habitats, the UNS Kalihiwai (crewed by volunteers from the New
Hawai'i Polynesian settlement on Centauris) heroically threw herself into
the battleship's path to draw its fire away from the civilian structures.
The Kalihiwai destroyed the Kra'Vak battleship with a devastating Graser
salvo at point-blank range, but the Kra'Vak ship's last shots breached her
Power Core and she blew up with all hands mere seconds after the Kra'Vak
battleship. This new Kra'Vak battleship class has been assigned the UNDIA
reporting name "Kohola" in memory of captain Haleakua and the
rest of the crew of the UNS Kalihiwai." |
